I have noticed that as long as I can remember both party's have some good ideas and lots of bad ideas in my view. Working in factories most of my adult life if feel a need for work safety rules fair labor treatment. My thinking is if you treat your people fairly they won't want a Union. My father and his father both worked in factories so I knew what to expect in my first job. The boss always want more than you give him, some people you work with are slackers, some are brown noses. So I have made a list of rules that you can use to survive if your a boss or a worker.
#1 Show up to work. The boss work ride you if you stay busy. That goes for management too, why should I work for you if your out talking or sitting.
#2 a. Don't mess with people they will get even or like me get ahead.
b. Management same thing goes, that means no rule changes on a whim that have no valid reason.
c. Never mess with employees pay, vacation or insurance.
d. Bosses will get even if you screw them over. See 2c
e. Never ever think about messing with maintenance. You will need something someday and we remember.
#3 95% of the people who get fired should be, maybe not for what they did this time but they do need fired. I know that as being an union steward.
#4 Never volunteer it will become your job forever. Bosses make it so people will be willing to volunteer.
#5 The shift your working on is the only shift that does all the work and does it right.
#6 Upper management doesn't have a clue. Union officers also. Why would a normal thinking person want either job.
#7 My favorite Management Rights : The right to run this place as inefficient as they see fit.
#8 Don't steal, what ever it is it's not worth your job.
There a more but I hope you see my point, its a 2 way street some people don't want to work, some bosses are stupid. Most folks just want to go to work be left alone and collect a paycheck on Friday.
